The First 2018 Hollywood Fringe Workshop!7 min read

Mar 4, 2018

In January, Jenn and Greg attended the 1st workshop for the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival, one of the biggest arts festivals in Los Angeles, at Thymele Arts. The topic? How to find a proper venue amongst all the Los Angeles rental properties. Jenn sat on the panel and talked about finding event rentals in Los Angeles.

In January, Jenn and Greg attended the first workshop for the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival, one of the biggest arts festivals in Los Angeles, at Thymele Arts. The topic? How to find a proper Fringe Festival venue amongst all the Los Angeles rental properties within the Fringe zone. Jenn was one of the panelists, representing studio/stage. It just so happened that the workshop occurred literally the night before we found out we had The Hobgoblin Playhouse.

Unfortunately, the audio from the footage we shot of the actual panel wasn’t very good. However, video of the full workshop has been uploaded to the Fringe’s YouTube channel. Take a look! It’s an excellent panel, full of lots of great information about the Fringe Festival, and a good look inside Thymele Arts.

Also, it’s worth pointing out that this video was shot in mid-January, and it’s now the beginning of March. We weren’t lying when we said we have a backlog of footage to get through. We’ll get through it all eventually. In the meantime, we’re still shooting footage for new episodes every week.

A couple of things that have changed since this video was shot –

About What We Do When We’re Dark:

These vlogs highlight happenings at the various StageCrafts venues – some of the best event rentals in Los Angeles – as well as share some of the fun things the owners do, both theatrical and mundane. Whether that’s checking out Fringe Festival shows all over SoCal, visiting other venues (like Thymele Arts in this episode!), developing our own new stories, or taking a break and unwinding with something fun and unusual, there’s always something interesting happening behind the scenes.

What do we mean by “dark”? Well, the TDF Theatre Dictionary tells us a playhouse (like studio/stage) is “lit” when there’s a show running in it—until the production shutters and the theatre is said to “go dark.” That’s almost never a good thing, at least as far as the building’s landlord is concerned. With luck, it won’t be long until a new show loads in and the theatre is lit again.

For the context of this vlog, “dark” means any time a performance or an event is not actually in progress on our stage, and our goal is to answer the burning question “what happens in The Room Where It Happens when there’s nothing happening?”
